NATIONAL WOMEN’S
TEAM HEAD TO LAKE PLACID FOR
2004 FOUR NATIONS CUP
CALGARY, ALBERTA – Team Canada is preparing for the
upcoming 2004 Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, NY/Burlington, VT
from November 10-14, 2004.
Team Canada will gather in Montreal, QC on November 7, and play
an exhibition game in Sherbrooke, QC on Monday November 8 at the
Palais de Sport at 7:30pm versus Team Finland (free admission) in
preparation for the Four Nations Cup. On Tuesday, November 9 the
team will then travel to Lake Placid, NY for the opening game of
the event.
Canada’s National Women’s Team roster assembled for
the Four Nations Cup, previously announced on Oct. 20, 2004, is
a development and evaluation roster, and represents the first step
in an ongoing evaluation process leading towards the 2005 IIHF World
Women’s Hockey Championship in Linkoping, Sweden and the 2006
Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Canada’s roster will continue
to change over the next few months, as part of the evaluation process.
During the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, Canada will name different
rosters for camps and events. Head scout Wally Kozak and the National
Women’s Team coaching staff (Head Coach Melody Davidson, assistant
coaches Tim Bothwell and Margot Page) will continue to evaluate
and monitor players prior to naming a final 2005 World Championship
roster.
The 2004 Four Nations Cup marks Canada’s first and only international
competition prior to the 2005 IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championship.
Canada, winners of six of the eight previous Three & Four Nations
Cups (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002), finished second at
last years event in Sweden as they fell to USA in a shootout. The
four teams featured at the 2004 Four Nations Cup will be: Canada,
USA, Sweden and Finland.

L’ÉQUIPE
NATIONALE FÉMININE EN ROUTE VERS LAKE PLACID POUR
LA COUPE DES QUATRE NATIONS 2004
CALGARY, ALBERTA – Équipe Canada se prépare
à la Coupe des quatre nations 2004 qui se tiendra à
Lake Placid, New York et à Burlington, Vermont, du 10 au
14 novembre 2004.
Équipe Canada se réunira à Montréal,
Québec, le 7 novembre et affrontera la Finlande lors d’un
match hors concours au Palais des Sports de Sherbrooke, Québec,
le lundi 8 novembre à 19h30 (entrée gratuite) en guise
de préparation à la Coupe des quatre nations. Le mardi
9 novembre, l’équipe se rendra à Lake Placid
pour le match d’ouverture de l’événement.
La formation de l’équipe nationale féminine
du Canada pour la Coupe des quatre nations, dévoilée
le 20 octobre 2004, est une formation de développement et
d’évaluation. Elle constitue la première étape
d’un processus d’évaluation continue en vue du
Championnat mondial de hockey féminin 2005 de l’IIHF
présenté à Linkoping, Suède, et des
Jeux olympiques d’hiver 2006 à Turin, en Italie. La
formation du Canada continuera de changer au cours des prochains
mois à cause de l’évaluation.
Au cours des saisons 2004-2005 et 2005-2006, le Canada nommera
différentes formations pour participer à des camps
et des événements. Le dépisteur en chef, Wally
Kozak, et les entraîneurs de l’équipe nationale
féminine (l’entraîneure-chef, Melody Davidson,
et les adjoints, Tim Bothwell et Margot Page) continueront d’évaluer
et de surveiller le progrès des joueuses avant de nommer
la formation définitive pour le championnat mondial 2005.
La Coupe des quatre nations 2004 est la première et la seule
compétition internationale du Canada avant le Championnat
mondial de hockey féminin 2005 de l’IIHF. Le Canada,
qui a remporté six des huit coupes des trois et des quatre
nations antérieures (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 et 2002),
a terminé deuxième lors de l’événement
de l’an dernier en Suède après avoir perdu aux
mains des États-Unis lors de tirs de barrage. Les quatre
équipes prenant part à la Coupe des quatre nations
2004 sont le Canada, les États-Unis, la Suède et la
Finlande.
