GAME SCHEDULE AND TICKET INFORMATION ANNOUNCED FOR
2006 FOUR NATIONS CUP IN NOVEMBER IN KITCHENER
KITCHENER, ON Hockey Canada , in partnership with the Ontario Womens
Hockey Association (OWHA) and the City of Kitchener , has announced
the game schedule and ticket information for the 2006 Four Nations
Cup. The 2006 Four Nations Cup will be held from November 7-11,
2006 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex (The Aud) and
will showcase the worlds top four ranked countries in womens hockey:
Canada , Finland , Sweden and USA .
As well as being the two-time defending Olympic Champions, Canada
is the reigning Four Nations Cup champion after claiming victory
at last years Four Nations Cup in Finland . Canada has won eight
(05, 04, 02, 01, 00, 99, 98, 96) of ten Nation Cup events, dating
back to the inaugural event in 1996 (USA won in 1997 and 2003).
After the Olympics and the World Championship, the Four Nations
Cup is the top international womens hockey event, said Julie Healy,
Hockey Canada s Director, Female Hockey. The 2006 Four Nations Cup
represents a very important step for our Team as we prepare for
the 2007 World Championship in Winnipeg , and even the 2010 Olympic
Winter Games in Vancouver.
Canada has hosted the Nations Cup on three previous occasions.
In 2002, when Kitchener hosted this event for the first time, Canada
defeated USA 4-2 in the gold medal final, then in 1999, Canada defeated
USA 3-2 in the Three Nations final in Montreal , Quebec while Ottawa
, Ontario saw Canada defeat USA 1-0 in the 1996 Three Nations Cup
final.
"The Ontario Womens Hockey Association is extremely pleased to
be working together with Hockey Canada and the City of Kitchener
on this event", said Fran Rider , Executive Director of the OWHA.
"Every game in the schedule will provide exciting hockey as Sweden
and Canada vie to return to the gold medal final as in the recent
Winter Olympics. The United States is determined to return to the
championship game while Finland , the team holding the most bronze
medals in International Womens play, gears up to follow Sweden s
lead and advance their standing."
"We are hoping to repeat the success we had when we hosted the
Women's World Hockey Championship in 1997 and the 2002 Four Nations
Cup where new standards were set for ticket sales for womens hockey",
said Keith Baulk, Director of Enterprise for the City of Kitchener.
We anticipate the 2006 Four Nations Cup will have standing room
only crowds so it is important to purchase tickets today.
Hockey Canada is looking forward to a great event in Kitchener
in November, said Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson. Kitchener
has always been a great supporter of Canada s National Teams and
in particular of our National Womens Team. I know that the hockey
fans from the area will enjoy watching womens hockey at its best.

DÉVOILEMENT DE LHORAIRE DES MATCHS ET DE LINFORMATION SUR
LES BILLETS POUR LA COUPE DES QUATRE NATIONS 2006 QUI AURA LIEU
EN NOVEMBRE, À KITCHENER
KITCHENER, ONTARIO Hockey Canada, en partenariat avec lAssociation
de hockey féminin de lOntario, a dévoilé lhoraire
des matchs et linformation sur les billets pour la Coupe des quatre
nations 2006. La Coupe des quatre nations 2006, qui se tiendra du
7 au 11 novembre 2006 au Memorial Auditorium Complex de Kitchener,
regroupera les quatre pays au sommet du classement international
au hockey féminin soit le Canada, les États-Unis,
la Finlande et la Suède.
En plus dêtre champion en titre des deux derniers Jeux olympiques,
le Canada est champion en titre de la Coupe des quatre nations ayant
remporté le tournoi lan dernier en Finlande. Le Canada a
remporté huit des dix tournois des nations (2005, 2004, 2002,
2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1996) depuis le tournoi inaugural présenté
en 1996 (les États-Unis lont remporté en 2003 et en
1997).
«Après les Olympiques et les championnats mondiaux,
la Coupe des quatre nations est le plus important événement
international de hockey féminin», a dit Julie Healy,
directrice du hockey féminin chez Hockey Canada. «La
Coupe des quatre nations 2006 représente une étape
très importante pour notre équipe alors que nous nous
préparons au Championnat mondial 2007 qui aura lieu à
Winnipeg, voire pour les Jeux olympiques dhiver de 2010 à
Vancouver.»
Le Canada a déjà accueilli la Coupe des nations à
trois reprises. En 2002, lorsque Kitchener a présenté
lévénement pour la première fois, le Canada
avait battu les États-Unis par la marque de 4 2 en finale,
puis, en 1999, le Canada a battu les États-Unis 3 2 en finale
de la Coupe des trois nations à Montréal et enfin,
lOntario a vu le Canada lemporté 1 0 sur les États-Unis
lors de la finale de la Coupe des trois nations de 1996.
«LAssociation de hockey féminin de lOntario est extrêmement
heureuse de travailler avec Hockey Canada et la ville de Kitchener
pour cet événement», a déclaré
Fran Rider, directrice administrative de lOWHA. «Chaque match
du calendrier verra du hockey excitant pendant que la Suède
et le Canada tenteront de se retrouver dans le match pour la médaille
dor comme ce fut le cas lors des derniers Jeux olympiques. Les États-Unis
sont déterminés à participer à nouveau
au match du championnat tandis que la Finlande, léquipe qui
détient le plus de médailles de bronze au hockey féminin
international, se prépare à suivre lexemple de la
Suède pour améliorer son classement.»
«Nous espérons connaître le succès que
nous avons connu lorsque nous avons tenu le Championnat mondial
de hockey féminin 1997 et la Coupe des quatre nations 2002
où nous avons établi de nouvelles normes pour la vente
de billets au hockey féminin», a dit Keith Baulk, directeur
dentreprise de la Ville de Kitchener. «Nous prévoyons
que les matchs de la Coupe des quatre nations 2006 afficheront complet;
voilà pourquoi il est important de vous procurer vos billets
dès aujourdhui.»
«Hockey Canada envisage la tenue dun grand événement
à Kitchener en novembre», a dit le président
de Hockey Canada, Bob Nicholson. «Kitchener a toujours bien
appuyé les équipes nationales du Canada, surtout notre
équipe nationale féminine. Je sais que les partisans
du hockey de la région prendront plaisir à regarder
le hockey féminin à son meilleur.»
