We are very saddened to advise that Mabel Boyd passed away today. We received a call from the family. We also received a call from the funeral parlour as donations to the OWHA are being requested. We advised that we will gratefully accept donations but are not able to issue a receipt for tax purposes.
Mabel was an incredible person who was a pioneer in female hockey. She was instrumental in the creation of the Mississauga Girls Hockey League and was inducted in to the Mississauga Sports Hall of Fame last year. She was aware of the award but at that time was unable to attend due to health problems. The notice will be in the Toronto Star on Wednesday.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the funeral on Friday afternoon. It will be at Skinner and Middlebrook in Mississauga.
