CANADA’S NATIONAL WOMEN’S TEAM ROSTER NAMED FOR 2004 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

CALGARY, ALBERTA – Canada’s National Women’s Team’s roster of twenty-two players for the upcoming 2004 IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship in Halifax and Dartmouth, NS was introduced on Tuesday during press conferences held in Halifax (NS), Calgary (AB) and Toronto (ON).

Team Canada’s roster consists of two goaltenders, six defencemen, 12 forwards, as well as alternate goaltender (Labonté) and an alternate forward (Vaillancourt).

The 2004 IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship runs from March 30-April 6, 2004 in Halifax and Dartmouth. For ticket information, contact the Halifax Metro Centre at (902) 451-1221.

The 2004 National Women’s Team World Championship 22 player roster includes 16 players who won gold at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and 19 of the 21 players named for the 2003 IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championship in Beijing, China, that was cancelled by the IIHF due to health and safety concerns. Three players (Apps, Ferrari, Piper) will be making their World Championship debut.

The players on Canada’s 2004 World Championship roster have combined to win 53 World Championship gold medals, 16 Olympic gold medals and 8 Olympic silver medals and have played a total of 1401 international games with Canada’s National Women’s Team.

“The depth of talented players in Canada has made the selection and evaluation process a great challenge,” said Karen Hughes, Head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “As a coaching staff, we’re very excited about the roster that we’ve assembled for this year’s World Championship, as it combines experience, youth and talent.”

ALIGNEMENT DU CANADA NOMMÉ POUR LE CHAMPIONNAT MONDIAL DE HOCKEY FÉMINIM

CALGARY (ALBERTA) – L’alignement de vingt-deux joueuses de l’équipe nationale féminine du Canada pour le Championnat mondial de hockey féminin 2004 de l’IIHF à Halifax et à Dartmouth (N.-É.) a été dévoilé mardi lors de conférences de presses tenues à Halifax (N.-É.), Calgary (Alb.) et Toronto (Ont.).

L’alignement du Canada compte deux gardiennes de but, six défenseures et 12 attaquantes, ainsi qu’une gardienne de but substitut (Labonté) et une attaquante substitut (Vaillancourt).

Le Championnat mondial de hockey féminin 2004 de l’IIHF aura lieu du 30 mars au 6 avril 2004 à Halifax et à Dartmouth. Pour de l’information au sujet des billets, communiquez avec le Halifax Metro Centre au (902) 451-1221.

L’alignement de 22 joueuses de l’équipe nationale féminine mondiale 2004 compte 16 joueuses qui ont remporté l’or aux Jeux olympiques d’hiver en 2002 à Salt Lake City et 19 des 21 joueuses nommées pour le Championnat mondial de hockey féminin 2003 de l’IIHF qui a été annulé en raison d’inquiétudes pour la sécurité et la santé. Trois joueuses (Apps, Ferrari, Piper) en seront à leur premer Championnat mondial.

Les joueuses qui figurant à l’alignement du Canada pour le Championnat mondial ont, à leur cumulative, remporté 53 médailles d’or au Championnat mondial, 16 médailles d’or olympiques et huit médailles d’argent olympique, tout en combinant pour 1401 matchs internationaux avec l’équipe nationale féminine du Canada.

“La profondeur de joueuses talentueuses au Canada rend la sélection et l’évaluation un défi de taille,” a dit Karen Hughes, entraîneure-chef de l’équipe nationale féminine du Canada. “Le personnel d’entraîneurs est ravi de l’alignement que nous avons assemble pour le Championnat mondial, puisqu’il combine bien l’expérience, la jeunesse et le talent.”
