The Ontario Women’s Hockey Association is pleased to announce details of the 2005 OWHA Provincial Championships. Three hundred and eighty-two teams (382) have qualified to compete in this prestigious event, which takes place April 15, 16 and 17 in Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan and Toronto.

Girls and women from all parts of Ontario will vie for gold in the largest women’s hockey provincial championship in the world. Over 7,500 participants will take part and well over ten thousand (10,000) fans will catch the games played in eight (8) facilities and twenty-eight (28) rinks.

This year’s Provincial Championship will feature teams who qualified through regional playdowns to compete in the following divisions and categories:

The 2005 Senior AAA and Intermediate AA, A, BB, B & C Provincial Championships were held in February. A total of 63 teams participated. Winners were:

Team Ontario (Brampton Thunder) and Team Ontario Host (Toronto Aeros) went on to represent the OWHA at the Esso Women’s National Championship in Sarnia. Team Ontario Host (Toronto Aeros) won gold, Team Ontario (Brampton Thunder) took the silver and Team Quebec (Montreal Axion) won bronze.

Toronto Aeros won the NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) Cup on March 26th against Montreal Axion in a thrilling 5-4 overtime win. Participants on both the Aeros and Thunder have won many OWHA provincial championships.

The OWHA Provincial Championships are an exceptional programme of excellence featuring superb competition that is unmatched throughout the world.
