ESSO FUN DAY PROGRAM | BACKGROUND
The Esso Fun Day (EFD) program began in 1998 and was designed to provide new-to-hockey participants with basic skills in a fun, positive and welcoming environment at no cost to the first-time participant. Programs can be delivered to girls and women of all ages, so players can experience the sport early and enjoy the game for a lifetime.
There are five Esso Fun Day formats:

Esso Fun Days are led by host Local Hockey Associations (LHA), with the goal of creating excitement and enthusiasm amongst participants AND the intention of increasing registration numbers.
ESSO FUN DAY PROCESS
Aligning with other Hockey Canada programs such as First Shift and Pathway to Hockey, the EFD program will adopt the same process for application, registration, and event management for the 25-26 season.
All EFD event applications and registration must go through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) to ensure a streamlined process. Overview of the process is below.
2. Members shared new EFD process with Local Hockey Associations (include step-by-step HCR Instructions)
3. Hockey Canada & Members grant event approval through HCR upon receipt of applications
4. Local Hockey Association / event hosts manages respective EFD events through HCR (ie: Participant registration, jersey quantities, etc.).
5. Hockey Canada initiates EFD Jersey delivery process & checklist.
6. Confirmed events posted on Hockey Canada EFD Webpage.
7. Reimbursement sent to event hosts following event completion and 100% compliance with HCR Process.
NOTE: All Esso Fun Days are confirmed by September 30th, 2025 and all registrations take place through the HCR.
